Learning To Drive An Automatic In Tealing

Apply for a provisional licence up to three months before your 17th birthday, and you could book your first driving lesson for the big day!

In America most people drive automatic cars.  They refer to manual cars as ’stick shift’ the stick being the gear lever.  In this country (United Kingdom) the position is very different with the vast majority preferring to drive a car that has a clutch.

A feature that attracts many people to learning in an automatic is the fact that they do not have a clutch pedal.  This fact alone is common to all automatics and it means that you only need one foot for the pedals.  This is convenient for people with certain disabilities.  Automatics however do have different features and these will be covered elsewhere.

There are three categories of driving tests for cars, manual, automatic and semi automatic.  The reason for this is that semi automatics, although they do not have a clutch pedal, still have the need for you to select gears.  Due to this the DSA treat semi automatics differently from automatics.

Driving Schools are similar to many businesses.  Some are very large such as the British School of Motoring, some, indeed many, are very small, often comprising one Approved Driving Instructor.  The most important thing when seeking Driving Tuition is the Driving Instructor, not the name of the Driving School.

We, dsaadi.com only allow suitably qualified, experienced Driving Instructors to register.  Use our SEARCH facility to find an ADI covering Tealing

This article contains elements of the process involved when learning to drive.

It does not matter where you are learning to drive, what matters is that you prepare for your driving test correctly.

You should know what is expected of you.

Throughout this article are samples of knowledge relating to Driving Skills, questions you may be asked at the start of the exam (Show Me Tell Me) and items from the Syllabus which you will need to learn to be successful in your driving test.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Driving Skill:- Do you concentrate properly and avoid distractions? Can you read the road and anticipate potential hazards in good time? These are both driving skills that good drivers possess.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Before agreeing to do lessons with a particular driving school, establish if the instructor is fully qualified or a trainee. Trainees are rarely going to be as good at imparting knowledge as a fully qualified and experienced instructor. Many driving schools have a high ratio of trainees.

You need never let this concern you with a 2pass instructor who are all fully qualified dsa approved driving instructors.

At the time of writing this we have yet to appoint a 2Pass Driving Instructor in Perth.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Syllabus element:- Junctions - You should be able to judge the correct speed of approach so that you can enter a junction safely and stop if necessary. Position your vehicle correctly. Use the correct lane. If turning right, keep as near to the centre of the road as is safe. Avoid cutting the corner when turning right. when turning left keep over to the left and avoid swinging out. Check your left mirror for cyclists and motorcyclists and before moving to the left check for pedestrians.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

The more driving lessons, the greater the expense. You are likely to learn quicker and thus save money when taught by an experienced instructor so check the windscreen badge. If it is a red triangle the Instructor is still not fully qualified. A green badge denotes that the Instructor has passed all of the qualifying exams.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Show Me Tell Me Question :- Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine coolant level and tell me how you would check the engine has the correct level.

Answer :- Identify the coolant tank and check the min/max markings. If the coolant is below the minimum mark then more coolant will need to be added. To do this, unscrew the cap and pour in coolant until the maximum mark is reached.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Another factor is the way you feel when on a driving lesson. Do you feel comfortable? If so you are likely to learn more quickly than if you dread your next lesson because you are uncomfortable with your instructor. With so many good instructors about, just ask your friends who they are with and choose another instructor before you waste your money.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Driving Skill:- Do you drive with courtesy and consideration for other road users, including pedestrians? In order to be a good safe driver you need to be considerate of ALL road users!

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Your Driving Instructor should be able to help you with Theory Training. Informing you of where you may be able to obtain training material inexpensively. Possibly even pointing out websites where you can study both theory questions and the hazard perception clips.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Syllabus element:- Meeting Other Traffic - If there is an obstruction on your side of the road or not enough room for two vehicles to pass safely, be prepared to wait and let approaching vehicle through. When you turn right across the path of an approaching vehicle, make sure you can do so safely. Be careful not to cause other road users to slow down, stop or swerve to avoid you.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

My aim with this post is to help you on your way to saving money by choosing a Driving Instructor that can get you to test standard in a pleasing way. Perth just like any other place will have it's good and bad instructors. just maybe this will guide you in the correct direction.

It matters not where you are learning to drive, what matters is that you prepare for your driving test in the correct manner.

It is important that you know what is needed.

Throughout this article are samples of knowledge relating to Driving Skills, questions you may be asked at the start of the exam (Show Me Tell Me) and items from the Syllabus you need to know in order to pass a driving test.
